Creating a Well Formatted Chart

This tutorial covers:

One of the features many sellers desire in their item presentations is a chart or table that clearly lists details particular to the item being sold. For clothing items the ability to do so is especially important. This tutorial shows how to create a simple chart using only the WYSIWYG Editor - without having to separately create and insert an HTML table into the template.

The keys to creating such charts is to:
  1. use the generic "monospace" font so textual content can be lined up evenly
  2. apply a different background color to the header to differentiate it from the rows
  3. apply underlining, as necessary, to help the eye follow across the chart
One very important thing not covered in the tutorial below is that charts created in this manner should be kept as narrow as possible. When dealing with text there is always the concern that it may "wrap" in the wrong places when viewed on small screen sizes / windows or when the visitor has their web browser set to display text larger than normal. Keeping the chart as narrow as possible helps prevent that from happening.

The web browser you are using either does not have javascript enabled or is not compatible with iDrive2 or Template Helper. I suggest using FireFox2 that you can download free at www.mozilla.com

Those of you who may not feel confident to install a template yourself, just ask me to do it for you. My help is available to all EAPH.com hosting members - rob@robshelp.com

If you are curious to see the whole sample template at this stage in development you may view it here: GolfBalls 3 - use your web browser's back button to return to this page. This version of the sample template does not yet have functioning links. Additional tutorials will be created using this template to demonstrate various editing capabilities available with the Template Helper. But, you don't need to wait for them! Thorough instructions including Step By Step are included in the Template Helper itself.

Instructions for increasing your web browser screen size

If you are having trouble fitting the tutorial slides along with the captions into your viewing window first try maximizing the window. If that doesn't do the trick try using the "Full Screen" option in your web browser's tool bar under "View".
